ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) members along with all members of the opposition on Thursday demonstrated a walk out of the National Assembly and the Senate due to increase in sales tax on the petroleum prices.
Federal Minister Ishaq Dar said that they would have to shut down all developmental projects if General Sales Tax (GST) is not increased.
MQM members raised slogans against during the National Assembly session followed by PPP and MQM members’ walk out of the session. The government faced severe crticism in the Senate over a five percent increase in the GST on petroleum prices. Dar said that when the time comes they would cut the tax by zero but for now its important for the development projects.
Senator Raza Rabbani, Kamil Ali Agha and Senator Kalsoom Parveen asked whether this is the supremacy of constitution. Economy is destroyed while the GST has been increased by five percent, the members added.
