Summary Recounting of votes is against the Section 55 of the Representation of the People Act

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday has accepted the petition challenging the recounting of the votes in the constutency NA-122 filed by Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

The petition says that the election tribunal gave a unilateral verdict after recording Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s statement .

The recounting of the votes in the NA-122 is against the Section 55 of the Representation of the People Act.

Moreover, the peition seeks a contempt of court case against election tribunal’s judge Kazim Malik.

Judge Malik ordered the recounting of the votes against the Supreme Court’s (SC) verdict, the petition states.

The LHC has accepted the petition of the National Assembly Speaker for hearing.

Reportedly, Judge Ejazul Hassan would hold a hearing on December 16 at 9 am in the morning.

The election tribunal had ordered the recounting of the votes in NA-122 on a petition by PTI chairman Imran Khan.
