MULTAN (Dunya News) – Three days anti-polio drive on Wednesday has continued to inoculate children on the third and last day in 185 Union councils (UCs) of Multan.

As per details, about 304000 children below age of five were administered polio drops on second day in 185 Ucs of the district.

Earlier, Health department has launched a three-day campaign on Monday to administer polio drops to more than 800,000 children below age of 5 in one hundred and eighty five union councils of the city.

Teams comprising 1800 people including lady health workers, teachers, police, civil defense and members of other government departments have been formed for the vaccination drive.

Also on Sunday, six new polio cases were reported in Pakistan s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Four polio cases were reported from FATA and one each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan by the polio virology laboratory at the national institute of health.

On the other hand, one day anti-polio drive was launched in Peshawar yesterday to administer polio drops to 700,000 children. The city was divided into different zones to meet the target and Section 144 was imposed as a part of the security arrangements.

Pakistan is one of only three countries in the world where polio remains endemic but efforts to stamp it out have been badly hit in recent years by attacks on immunisation teams.
