Summary I cannot reckon why local bodies’ elections are rebutted in democratic regimes, says Ch. Sarwar.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Tuesday said real facade of democracy is facilitating people, acquisition of justice, snubbing oppression and rebuffing corruption adding that targeting the institutions must be stopped.

Addressing the 47-membered delegation of Air force War College, Chaudhry Sarwar said negation of distribution of power to lower level and denial of local bodies’ elections is against the essence of democracy adding that he cannot reckon why local bodies’ elections are rebutted in democratic regimes.

He further said political powers did not fulfill their promises in regard to formulation of new provinces. The idea of democracy is to ensure solution to common man’s problems and countering terrorism lies in the philosophy of ‘Pakistan first, Pakistan last’.

If state’s dignity is to be ensured, it is imperative to give precedence to institutions over individuals, he added.
