Lawmakers walkout assembly for not getting to speak about sugarcane prices

Summary The government has reduced the price by Rs 17 as compared to that of last year, say MPAs

KARACHI (Dunya News) – As many as two parliamentarians demonstrated a walk-out of the Sindh Assembly for not getting permission to speak by the Speaker Assembly about the reduced prices of sugar cane as compared to the last year by the government.

According to details, two Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) lawmakers Nawaz Chandiyo and Syed Murad Ali Shah walked out of the assembly for not getting permission to speak in the assembly.

Moreover, Sindh Minister for Agriculture Ali Nawaz Mehar said that the Sindh government has set a temporary price of sugar cane after directives from the Sindh High Court.

Members of the opposition in the assembly tried to talk about the issue but they were also not permitted by the Speaker.

They said that the sugar cane price is set at Rs 155 per 40 Kilograms (KGs) whereas last year the price was Rs 172 per 40 Kgs.

Sheharyar Memon, Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly said that the government is trying to destroy the cultivators of the province.

He said that the sugar cane crushing season was supposed to start on October 1 but due to the price set by the government and conflicts of the sugar mills’ owners it has been delayed.
