Army to ensure terrorists do not return or set up base on Pakistani soil: Gen Raheel

Summary General Raheel Sharif and US officials discussed security situation in the region.

WASHINGTON (Web Desk) -- Army chief General Raheel Sharif told top American military and political leaders the country s security forces will continue offensive against militant groups in tribal regions.

The ISPR on Thursday said that Sharif, who is currently visiting the US, held meetings with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Armed Services Committee and Select Committee on Intelligence.

"Sharif expressed Pakistan s resolve to continue military operations until the last militant is eliminated," said a statement from the military s Inter-Services Public Relations.

"The Pakistan Army is confident of holding their gains in FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) to ensure militants will not be able to return or set up base on Pakistani soil," Sharif was quoted as saying by the statement.

Sharif and US officials also discussed security situation in the region and matters related to Afghanistan.

The US senators expressed hope to forge a strong and lasting partnership between the US and Pakistan. 

Earlier, Chair of the Select Intelligence Committee, Senator Dianne Feinstein along with other key members exchanged views with General Raheel Sharif and his delegation

Both sides discussed a range of issues in bilateral security cooperation and expressed a strong desire to continue and intensify this partnership in the coming months
