Summary PM has only directed to take extensive measures against polio during months of November and April.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The government spokesperson today (Thursday) clarified that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, during the meeting of Steering Committee yesterday (Wednesday), did not announce any deadline regarding polio eradication.

The Prime Minister has only directed to take extensive measures against polio during months of November and April when polio virus is less active, the spokesperson said.

He said the Prime Minister has expressed the resolve to make the country polio-free on priority basis and also directed to take initiatives to immunize every child on emergency basis.

Yesterday`s meeting was attended by Cheif Ministers of the four provinces, Health Minister, members of international organisations including World Health Organisation, UNICEF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and JICA.

The meeting reviewed anti-polio measures and future strategy to aradicate polio from the county.
