Summary Government is paying interest over loan in addition to penalty for not utilizing remaining amount.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – It was revealed on Wednesday that Rs 12 billion were wasted in the wake of Safe City Project that was designed to ensure security of country s capital.

Safe City Project was initiated in order to ensure Islamabad s security and was intended to protect the capital from acts of terrorism.

According to the sources, commercial loan worth Rs 12 billion was taken from a Chinese bank in the fiscal year 2009-10. Rs 7 billion were paid in advance to a Chinese company in order to purchase 4 defective scanners whereas remaining Rs 5 billion is kept in the Chinese bank.

Government of Pakistan is paying interest over the loan in addition to paying the penalty for not utilizing rest of Rs 5 billion.

Supreme Court order National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct an enquiry in 2012 but NAB has been avoiding to extend their hands upon the responsible minister and bureaucrats for the past two years whereas Ministry of Interior and NAB are not ready to hand over the documents to Auditor General for audit.
