Summary New appointment hasn't been made yet; Establishment Division had demanded 3 names

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Tenure of Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Ishtiaq Ahmad has ended yet his replacement has not been made as yet. The tenure ended on Tuesday and he will leave his position shortly. Ishtiaq Ahmad was given two extensions earlier but the new appointment hasn’t been made as yet.

According to the sources, Establishment Division had demanded 3 names for the position of Secretary but despite Ishtiaq Ahmad’s retirement, the new Secretary hasn’t been named. On the other hand, tenures of election commissioners of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) have also ended today (Tuesday).

It is pertinent to mention here that the post of Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan (CECP) is also vacant till date. Government and opposition have not been able to agree on a common name while Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has ordered the government to appoint new CECP by November 13.
