ISLAMABAD (WEB DESK) – Opposition parties have decided to boycott the National Assembly session in protest against administration s use of force against protesting workers of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Dunya News reported.

On Wednesday, police resorted to tear gas shelling and baton-charge when OGDCL workers tried to reach the Parliament House to register their protest against OGDCL s privatisation plan.

Today, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khurshid Shah chaired a meeting of the opposition parties including Awami National Party (ANP), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

The participants have decided to stage sit-in outside the Parliament House to protest against “anti-labour policies of the government.”

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Sheikh Aftab Ahmed has said the government has not taken any decision to privatize oil and Gas Development Company Limited.

He said no employee of the OGDCL is being laid off and their rights are fully being protected. He said section 144 is imposed in Islamabad and there was no justification for the employees of the OGDCL to take out protest when their organization is not being privatized.
