Summary The resolution for a new province must come from provincial assembly, says PM.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A four member delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss their escalating tension with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) along with other ongoing political matters today in Islamabad.

Federal ministers Khawaja Saad Rafique, Pervez Rashid, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Rasheed Gudail and Nasreen Jalil were present among the participants of the meeting.

The meeting brought country’s ongoing political situation and Karachi’s operation.

Sources have revealed to Dunya News that MQM has demanded Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to support the resolution in national Assembly for the formation of a new Mahajir province.

PM Nawaz responded that procedure for formation of a new province is mentioned in the constitution according to which the resolution has to come from the provincial assembly.

He further said that PML-N backs formulation of new provinces on administrative basis whereas the decision to support the stance would be taken after party consultation.

According to the sources, MQM expressed their reservations over Karachi operation saying that MQM supports the operation but is becoming the target as well.

They urged the government to take notice of extra judicial killings and detentions of MQM workers.

MQM delegation said argument is healthy for country’s welfare and discord is the beauty of democracy.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and MQM should therefore resolve mutual dissent through dialogue.

MQM had parted ways with Sindh government after opposition leader National Assembly Khursheed Shah of PPP termed the word ‘Muhajir’ as abusive and then chairman PPP made the ‘provocative’ speech against MQM.
