ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Addressing a press conference in Islamabad today, Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said safeguard of national interest is the responsibility of the political parties but sit-ins for political benefits have incurred the loss of billions of dollar to country’s economy which is the worst form of terrorism.
The objective of sit-ins was to put Pak-China friendship in jeopardy, he added.
He said lobby benefiting from oil resources is behind the conspiracy whereas another lobby tried putting Pakistan China friendship at stake by orchestrating a situation that hampered Chinese president’s visit to Pakistan.
Defense Minister said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provided false statistics in their request reagriding tarrif to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and NEPRA has rejected it.
He further said PTI’s Asad Umer has adept understanding of economic matters he should therefore not criticize the government and advised him to stay associated with business institutions.
Denouncing chairman PTI he said Imran Khan is completely devoid of economic know-how.
He informed that government provides 100 percent subsidy on the electricity produced from oil and so the electricity generated at Rs 18 per unit is being provided for Rs 9 instead.
He accused the sit-ins of encumbering 10,400 megawatt power projects.
