Summary We were mocked when we raised questions about election irregularities, says Vice Chairman PTI

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) kept its review report concealed from the nation and the media. He said that PTI was mocked when it raised the question about irregularities in the elections but ECP report has admitted that the allegations were substantive.

Holding a press conference today (Tuesday) in Islamabad, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that PTI had raised the issue about printing of extra ballot papers from Urdu Bazar, Lahore. Today, ECP has admitted that there were problems with the ballot papers, he said. “ECP report admitted that there were problems with printing ballot papers”, said Qureshi.

Vice Chairman PTI said that voters were unable to reach the polling stations because ECP was unable to provide them with the transport. He said that Election Commission scrutiny cell was not working. UNDP system was a complete failure despite heavy investment in this system.

“Time was extended at some polling stations and was not extended on the others”, said Shah Mehmood. He said that PTI was supportive of extending the voting time as there were long queues outside polling stations yet time was extended only in few of the polling stations. He said that magnetic ink was not used in the elections. “Has ECP held anyone responsible for not using magnetic ink?” asked Qureshi.

Moreover, Shah Mehmood said that government is using delaying tactics in scrutiny of the matter. Revealing the discussions that PTI had with the government committee, Shah Mehmood said that when PTI committee asked the government committee to scrutinize 30 constituencies, they rejected it saying that 30 constituencies were not enough to determine whether entire elections were rigged or not. He said that all of a sudden fire broke out in a school where Election Commission’s record was kept and all the material got burned.
