PESHAWAR (Web Desk / AFP) - At least three people including a woman and security personnel have been killed and thirteen others injured in a roadside blast in the provincial capital, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani, the roadside blast targeted Frontier Constabulary (FC) convoy on Peshawar s Saddar Road.

He said evidence was being collected from the area.

Security forces have cordoned off the blast site while the injured have been rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital. Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

Talking to media, CCPO Peshawar Ijaz Khan said, "an explosives-laden Alto car targeted the FC convoy near Railway Station around 9:00am."

Brigadier Khalid Javed, who was the target of the attack, is safe, the CCPO Peshawar said.

He said 45kg explosives were used in the blast, adding that the incident could be reaction of ongoing military offensive (Zarb-e-Azb) in North Waziristan tribal region.

Peshawar is the gateway to the seven semi-autonomous tribal regions where the military has been battling Taliban and Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

The military began a long-awaited push to clear militant bases from North Waziristan in June after a bloody attack on Karachi airport finally sank faltering peace talks with the rebels.

Air strikes, artillery, mortars and ground troops have all been used to retake territory there.

The tribal areas have for years been a hideout for militants of all stripes -- including Al-Qaeda and the homegrown Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as well as foreign fighters such as Uzbeks and Uighurs.

Pakistan s army says it has killed more than a thousand militants and lost 86 soldiers since the start of the current operation.
