Summary Prime Minister assured the residents of Chiniot that government will not leave them alone

CHINIOT: (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the Punjab government to declare Chiniot as a calamity-hit area. He visited Chiniot today (Friday) and later also visited Bhawana where he was briefed about the devastation that the floods had brought in the region.

While visiting Chiniot, PM Nawaz Sharif said that the government will not leave the flood victims alone in this hour of crisis. Later in Bhawaana, Prime Minister was briefed that 132 villages of Chiniot had been affected by the flood whereas crops of sugarcane and vegetables expanding on 57,644 acres were destroyed.

Prime Minister paid tribute to the flood victims for remaining steadfast in the hour of crisis. “I am here to help you”, said the PM. He said that the government will rehabilitate the affectees despite limited resources. He directed the provincial government to compensate the flood victims for the loss of cattle and crops.

Earlier, PM Nawaz Sharif visited Sial Morr as well. While talking to media on this occasion, Nawaz Sharif said that Sargodha had elected him and therefore, it was his own city. He said that he will not rest until rehabilitation of the flood affected areas.

Prior to that, in the Federal Cabinet meeting, presided over by the Prime Minister, it was decided that the miseries brought by the flood will be minimized. It was also decided in the meeting that foreign aid will not be taken for this purpose. Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told the federal cabinet that 274 people lost their lives due to floods and 47,000 houses were damaged while Punjab’s 10 districts, 3000 villages and 11,00,000 people suffered due to the floods. Prime Minister directed the cabinet to take effective measures to minimize the losses.

Chairman NDMA also informed that Jhang, Chiniot and Hafizabad are the most affected districts of Punjab. He said that NDMA’s operation is being carried out for fighting the flood. Helicopters and boats are being used for providing relief to the victims, he added. “Pakistan Army and provincial institutions are busy providing relief to the flood victims”, Chairman NDMA said.

“To rebuild the affected areas, losses will be taken into account again”, told Chairman NDMA. PM Nawaz Sharif said on this occasion that effective measure should be taken to minimize the effect of the floods. He also directed to take measures in order to save Sindh from floods and to accelerate the work on accounting for the losses incurred due to the floods.
