Summary Relatives of the deceased blame hospital staff for the negligence that caused this incident.
VEHARI (Dunya News) – The tragic incident struck Vehari when seven infants in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) died due to lack of oxygen in the cylinders at the Vehari District Headquarter Hospital on Tuesday.
According to the details 14 babies were kept in incubators and seven out of them died when the supply of oxygen terminated. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the ventilators were malfunctioned as well.
Relatives of the deceased state that upon noticing the deterioration in infants’ condition, rushed to the doctors only to find that the hospital staff was asleep during their duty hours.
The relatives claim that it is the negligence of the staff that caused the incident and staged a protest against the hospital administration in front of the hospital building and urged chief minister Punjab to take notice of the incident.
DCO Health Dr. Afzal Bashir said that negligent staff member Dr Maqbool and the nurse in-charge have been suspended.
