Torrential rains kill over 100, army's relief operation continues

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The torrential rains lashing the country brought the message of death for several on Friday as 66 people were killed in Punjab, 30 in Azad Kashmir and 6 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Dunya News reported.
Various rain related incidents also left dozens injured. Only yesterday at least 40 persons were killed in incidents including roof collapse and electrocution.
The destruction rain continues to lash other areas of Punjab. The lower areas of Lahore have drowned under water presenting the image of water stream.
Reportedly, as many as 100 houses collapsed due to the rain related incidents in Azad Kashmir. The traffic system has paralyzed due to the water flow on roads resulting in people having to remain stuck in houses.
The system of Lahore Electric Supply Company also failed resulting in electricity failure in various areas of the city.
Most of the educational institutions and offices remained closed. Murree Expressway and Pindi-Murree Road were shut down due to the land sliding.
According to Metrological department, 397 millimeter rain was recorded in Rawalakot, 326 in Mangla, 265 in Rawalpindi, 264 in Sialkot 255 in Islamabad and 233 in Lahore.
More rain lashing is expected during next 24 hours in various areas including Lahore, Kashmir, Islamabad and Gujranwala.
Meanwhile, the water flow dumped by India has caused an upper level flood in Pakistani rivers resulting in destruction of crops and cattle.
The water level has risen continuously in Head Marala, Head Khanki and Head Qadirabad in River Chenab.
The adequate relief, prevention and disaster management by the authorities was not seen in place. Pakistan Army’s relief operations continue to rescue individuals stuck in rain.
There are reports that a soldier was martyred during relief efforts.
