ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- A meeting of parliamentary leaders presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took place on Thursday in which a response to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) demands was prepared, Dunya News reported.
Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said that the response will be presented to PTI’s negotiators tonight and that the government’s stance over Prime Minister’s resignation is intact. He claimed that the protesting parties i.e. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) have agreed to evacuate Constitution Avenue.
The consulting session was presided over by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the details of a possible agreement between the government and protesting parties.
Earlier, Dunya News unveiled details of a possible agreement to take place between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), citing sources.
As per the agreement, the judicial commission will be made fully independent and the investigation of election rigging must be completed in 30 days.
The possible draft recommends completion of investigation of 35 to 50 constituencies in the first phase.
Another recommendation is to form a monitoring council as guarantor to prevent possible influence on the investigation from government.
As for Prime Minister’s resignation, sources reveal that this clause will be added either as an immediate requirement or a requirement at a later date, but the PTI is not willing to give up on this demand.
If Prime Minister’s resignation comes at a later date; for example after investigation of election rigging proves him guilty, a re-election is to take place under independent caretaker government.
About the electoral reforms, the possible agreement recommends forming an expert committee that will work alongside the parliamentary committee.
