ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – At least three people have been killed while approximately 498 people injured in the ongoing clashes between police and the anti-government protesters in Islamabad.

The clashes that erupted late Saturday turned violent after police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters.

Thousands of followers of politician Imran Khan and firebrand cleric Tahir ul Qadri have been camped outside parliament since August 14 demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, triggering a crisis that has raised the spectre of military intervention.

Among the dead, two belonged to Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). They were identified as Rafiullah and Gulfam Mahmood. A body identified as Naveed Razzaq was also brought to the hospital.

Dr Javed Akram said that 223 people were admitted to PIMS out of which 41 were policemen.

Most of the women and men were affected due to tear gas shells, he added.

According to sources, police also used expired tear gas on demonstrators.

Furthermore, the police also used force against the media personnel. At least seven mobile vans of different media outlets were attacked that injured several journalists.

Addressing supporters, Imran Khan said: "I will not leave my people alone and keep fighting until we secure a real independence for Pakistan."

"Sharif brothers have a lust for power. They are not sincere with the people or the country.

"We will get their resignations and put them in jails."

He also said that FIRs will be registered against PM Nawaz, Punjab CM and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar.
