Summary Judicial commission had held Punjab govt responsible for killings of 14 protestors in Model Town.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Federal Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique on Thursday said the government has decided to register First Information Report (FIR) against all accused in Model Town tragedy in accordance with the orders of the session court.
On Tuesday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) upheld a session court’s decision and directed the police to register a murder case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and 19 other officials in connection with the killing of 14 Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) protestors outside the Central Secretariat of Minhajul Quran International in Lahore’s Model Town on June 17.
Talking to media in Islamabad, Saad Rafiqe said despite having fundamental right to file an appeal against the judgment of the Lahore High Court registration of FIR against the prime minister and other officials, the government has decided not to go for another appeal, which shows its desire to resolve the issues through peaceful means.
He appealed to Tahirul Qadri not to instigate his supporters as the country cannot afford anarchy. The government is still serious to resolve the political issues through dialogue, he added.
The minister said that the government accepted five demands of PTI but Imran Khan is not ready to withdraw his demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister which is unconstitutional.
On the occasion, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said the government is still demonstrating patience. He said there are some reports that PAT plans for a clash to spill blood in front of the parliament house but the government is still committed to avoid any clash.
Khawaja Asif said those protesting on the Constitution Avenue are stealing the electricity but the government has not taken any action on this pilferage as well.
