Summary Marches' activists should not take law in their own hands

LAHORE (Web Desk): Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Altaf Hussain ‎while congratulating the nation on Independence Day said that it takes a lot of ‎time to build democracy, but it could be destroyed easily and swiftly. He added ‎that these political parties should refrain from giving inflammatory statements, ‎which would result in hostility.


During an exclusive interview with Dunya News, Altaf Hussain while expressing his ‎desire of how he wanted the long march issue to be resolved by dialogue instead ‎of political infighting said that he had contacted Governor Punjab Ch. Muhammad ‎Sarwar for a chance to play a reconciliatory mode during the negotiations.


Hussain said that Governor Punjab had convinced the federal government to ‎allow the long march, which was the green signal for Pakistan Awami Tehreek ‎‎(PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri to start his march.


MQM chief said that political parties should protect democracy because it takes a ‎lot of efforts to build it, but it can be destroyed swiftly. In turn, he added, “Police, ‎government and administration should be tolerant and if there is a possibility then ‎the rigging claims of elections2013 should definitely be investigated.


Hussain said that it is imperative to sustain the sequence of democracy for future ‎development, the population should be given fundamental civil liberties. He ‎added that the federal government should hold local body elections as soon as ‎possible.‎
