Summary Electricity shortfall reached 5,600mw on Wednesday.

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Cities are facing 12 hours of powers cuts while loadshedding is being carried for 15 hours in rural areas as hot and muggy weather prevails in many parts of the country, Dunya News reported.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), electricity generation remained 14,600mw while 14,600mw demand was recorded across the country.

National Power Control Centre increased the duration of power cuts due to load on the system. Tripping also surged due to technical problems in the supply system of power distribution companies.

Despite government’s tall claims, loadshedding is being carried out during Iftar, Sehri and Taraweeh timings.

According to authorities, duration of scheduled and unscheduled loadshedding is unlikely to decrease until power demand declines.

Power cuts have worsened in Pakistan in recent years, becoming one of the main sources of public discontent in the country. The deepening shortages have already sparked violent protests in the past and cost hundreds of thousands of jobs, adding to Pakistan s long list of economic and security woes.
