Summary "Fed up with the government, nation will join us at D-Chowk on 14 August" - Sheikh Rasheed
LAHORE: (Dunya News) Political meetings continue as Sheikh Rasheed makes a high profile visit to Lahore, the capital of Punjab. After meeting the Chaudhry Borthers at their Lahore residence, he went to see Dr. Tahirul Qadri and urged him to form an alliance with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to get rid of Pakistan Muslim League (N) s government. He said that the government, which can sacrifice a stalwart like Rana Sanaullah, can also sacrifice Khawaja Saad Rafique and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq if need be. He reiterated his resolve to bring the government down saying that the movement against the government will be accelerated in the days to come.
He urged all the opposition parties to form a joint alliance against this government and set their petty political differences aside if they wanted to achieve the common objective. Sheikh Rasheed criticized the government heavily saying that it had failed to control inflation and lawlessness in the country and the people of Pakistan must decide if they wanted to get rid of this government or continue to live under the scourge of inflation.
While Dr. Tahirul Qadri and Imran Khan have entirely different agendas for a reform in the country, the only binding force between the two is their adversarial relationship with the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz). But since the revelations that Imran Khan came up with during his recent speech in Bahawalpur, the agendas of the two parties have come closer. The major difference between PAT and PTI s agendas was that while Tahirul Qadri did not believe in the electoral process and termed it as eyewash for the common public, Imran Khan looked only to reform the electoral system through legislation. Imran Khan also said repeatedly that he did not want to bring the government down and only wanted his concerns about the 4 constituencies addressed through voters verification. But in his Bahawalpur speech, Khan said that he was not ready to give any more time to the government and would hold a Long March to Islamabad on 14th of August.
This brings the agendas of the two parties closer and if Sheikh Rasheed s efforts succeed, the two have every reason to join hands to bring this government down. While Sheikh Rasheed seemed quite confident about the success of the long march and believed that the nation would join Imran Khan at D-Chowk on the Independence Day, he fell short of declaring that all the parties will be joining hands in this march. He said that the election was a fraud and the government that has been formed through these elections did not enjoy any legitimacy among the masses. He encouraged the nation to come out of their houses on 14th of August and join hands to rid Pakistan of the fraudulent government.
Sheikh Rasheed also said that he will be joining MQM in their rally. He said MQM will hold a successful rally in Karachi on 6th of July. He said that whoever will strive for true democracy in this country, people will rally behind him.
