ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- The murder case of Lal Masjid Cleric Ghazi Abdul Rasheed opened up for hearing today at a local court in Islamabad. The former president Pervez Musharaf is granted an exemption for one day. Musharraf and his guarantors have been ordered to appear before the court in the next hearing.
Additional Session Judge Wajid Ali Khan heard Ghazi Abdul Rasheed’s murder case. Musharraf lawyer Akhtar Shah presented a medical report prepared by a panel of five doctors from a private hospital in Karachi. According to the report, Musharraf is strictly forbidden from travelling and has been prescribed complete bed rest. He requested one day exemption from the hearing, stressing that Musharraf is facing severe security issues to which the prosecution objected. They demanded that Musharraf’s continuous absence from the court must be looked into. However, Shah insisted that the hearing of the court is delayed for three weeks. The court while granting Musharraf an exemption for one day, ordered him to must appear before the court in the next hearing, else strict actions would be taken. The court also summoned Musharraf’s guarantors and adjourned the case hearing till 30th July.
On 12th June the court resumed hearing of the murder case of Lal Masjid’s cleric Abdul Rasheed Ghazi and rejected the exemption plea filed by the accused General (r) Pervez Musharraf, summoning him on July 1. In spite of exemptions in the previous hearings, Musharraf did not appear in last hearing while two of his guarantors appeared before the court. The court in its ruling dismissed Musharraf exemption for plea and summoned him on July 1 to avoid actions being taken against his guarantors.
In the last hearing, the counsel of Musharraf Major Akhtar Shah presented Musharraf’s medical reports informing the court that doctors have strictly forbidden Musharraf from travelling. The prosecution raised objections against the medical report claiming that it was only a medical prescription by the doctor and not a report. As per the medical reports presented in the last hearing, the final challan was not prepared so far. The Judge Wajid Ali Durrani observed that the police have not submitted the final challan to the court.
Meanwhile, the police have also provided the complete challan of Ghazi Abdul Rasheed murder case to the court of Judge Wajid Ali Durrani.
Musharraf’s lawyer Shah had asserted in the last hearing that Musharraf has been declared innocent according to the challan and hence, there was no point for him to appear before the court. However, he was ready to appear in the court, provided that he is deemed with tight security on this occasion. He added that the former president will appear in the court when permitted by his doctors.
