CM Sindh presents budget with Rs 686 billion outlay

Summary Rs 55.90 billion has been allocated for the law and order situation in the province.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday presented provincial budget for the 2014-15 financial year with an outlay of Rs 686 billion.

Presenting budget in the Sindh Assembly, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah announced that budget for the next fiscal year is tax free.

Shah announced that Rs 55.90 billion has been allocated for the law and order situation in the province. He said 12,000 new police jobs would also be introduced and Rs 4.65 billion has been allocated for operational needs of the police.

The Chief Minister said Rs 185 billion has been allocated for public sector development programme.

Ten percent ad hoc relief has been announced for government servants while an increase of 10% has been proposed in the pensions of retired government employees. Minimum wages of the worker has been increased to Rs 11,000.

Fixed medical allowance for Grade 1-15 officers has also been increased by 10%.

He said the budget focuses on improved service delivery; peace and security through investment in law and order; education and youth development; improved healthcare and energy development.

He said building a robust infrastructure and development of agriculture, livestock and fisheries would also be on the priority list of the Government during the next financial year.

A huge amount of Rs 134.32 has been allocated for education, Qaim Ali Shah announced. Health sector would get Rs 43.58 billion

Mega-development projects will get Rs 6 billion. Rs 20 billion has been fixed for development in energy sector.

The Karachi Circular Railways, Lyari Expressway, Thar coal power project will receive Rs 1 billion each.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah said 7.3 billion rupees have been allocated for the provision of clean drinking water to people in Thar and Rs 42 billion will be spent on different schemes in Karachi.

Irrigation sector in Sindh would receive Rs 35.57 billion.
