KARACHI (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) presented Sindh’s shadow budget on Thursday that said that an insurance scheme along the lines of the one offered by federal government should be introduced. It also recommended imposition of property taxes throughout the Sindh province and not just Karachi, Dunya News reported.
MQM’s parliamentary leader for Sindh Assembly Syed Sardar Ahmed presented the financial provincial budget for the fiscal year 2014-2015, while speaking at Khursheed Begum Secretariat.
Ahmed said that the establishment of peace and elimination of poverty should be priority in the budget, adding that a special focus is to be concentrated around education and health sectors.
He said that investors should be provided with better opportunities and that the elimination of corruption is inevitable.
Sardar Ahmed said that provinces rely more on federation, adding that the province has to raise its sources of income. He said that several problems can be solved by following the NFC formula.
He recommended imposition of taxes on agricultural income along with province-wide property tax. He said that the government did not consult MQM while preparing the budget.
MQM leader recommended working on solar power projects to curb energy crises along with completion of project to solve water crisis.
He recommended that rationing system be introduced in the cities and that the subsidy on flour and sugar be provided and resources be distributed justifiably.
