ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged the National Assembly and Senate to set up a joint Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms to prepare comprehensive recommendations for ensuring free, fair and transparent elections.

In a letter to the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the PM said the Committee should comprise representatives of political parties from both the Treasury and Opposition members in both Houses.

Nawaz Sharif said the committee should also consider the report of the Sub-Committees of both the houses on the issues and upgrade the electoral system in the light of report of these committees.

The letter further says that the recommendations of sub-committee of National Assembly’s standing committee on Law and Justice regarding election reforms and Senate special committee’s report of February 2o13 regarding election issues should also be reviewed.

The PM urged that the Parliamentary Committee should also review public opinion and submit its recommendations regarding introduction of modern technology in elections, constitutional amendments in election rules.

The PM urged the committee that it should prepare a strategy that should guaranty free and fail elections in future.

The PM said that the Parliamentary Committee should submit its final report to Speaker National Assembly within three months.
