Karachi: Terrorist attack on ASF academy foiled

Summary ASF personnel successfully repulsed the attack, however, terrorists are still at large.

KARACHI (Web Desk) - A day after attack on Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, terrorists have once again tried to attack ASF academy near the airport on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.

The academy run by the Airport Security Force Academy (ASF) is unit tasked with protecting Karachi airport.

“The ASF academy is under attack. There is gunfire. The extent of the damage is not clear,” said a senior official at the Federal Investigation Agency. 

According to sources, four to five terrorists came from Pehawan Goth side. 

Meanwhile, flight operation at Karachi airport have been temporarily suspended. 

"We have suspended all flight operations at Karachi Airport and we are evacuating passengers," said Mr Mashud Tajwar, a spokesman for Pakistan International Airlines. 

Civil Aviation Authority spokesman Abid Qaimkhani added that incoming flights had been diverted.

According to police, security forces have surrounded Pehalwan Goth area and operation is underway to arrest the terrorists. 

DG Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar is also present at the scene. 

Paramilitary vehicles and ambulances have arrived at scene of the attack. Gunfire has caused panic among citizens in the vicinity.
