NAROWAL (Dunya News) – As per the unofficial and inconclusive vote-count, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) candidate Colonel (R) Shujaat Khan has won the by-election for the provincial assembly seat PP136 of Narowal district, Dunya News reported.
Khan bagged a total of forty three thousand three hundred and eighty two votes.
The second in race is Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s candidate Wakeel Khan Manj who bagged twenty six thousand five hundred and seventy six votes as per the unofficial and unconfirmed results.
The turnout for the polling was approximately 43%.
Supporters gathered in scores at winning candidate’s place Dera Talondi Bhandran to celebrate by dancing on drum beats. The campaign managers also distributed sweets among the supporters.
The polling started right on schedule and continued until 5pm without any breaks.
Some 10-15 armed men tried to cast fake votes but the attempt was foiled by PTI activists and police officials deployed for security.
The provincial assembly’s seat had gotten vacant after Election Tribunal declared the polling of the constituency during the general election as bogus and ordered a re-poll. Election Tribunal moved after an independent candidate had filed petition accusing of rigging.
