ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) filed a constitutional petition against Geo TV in Supreme Court on Saturday. SIC Chief Hamid Raza said that SIC has taken legal route over Geo TV’s alleged blasphemy, Dunya News reported.
The petition was filed by Hamid Raza and other SIC members invoking section 3 of article 184. The petition submits that Geo TV has hurt the sentiments of millions of Muslims by allegedly committing blasphemy.
The petition maintains that religious hatred and sectarianism was incited through the allegedly blasphemous broadcast, adding that the apex court should order registering a case against Geo network.
The petition has made Geo/Jang group chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman, morning show host Shaista Lodhi, show producer, actress Veena Malik, her husband Asad Khattak, Geo TV management among others respondents.
Raza said, after filing the petition, that he has taken the legal route. He added that Sunni Ittehad Council does not believe in violent acts.
