ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Friday that Pakistan Army is not an obstacle in the Taliban negotiation process but the talks cannot proceed in the atmosphere of conflict. He said that terrorism reduced due to steps taken by the government, Dunya News reported.
Addressing a press conference at National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) headquarters, he said that everyone says that government is not serious about negotiating with Taliban. He said that it is because of the seriousness of government that the process has come this far, adding that no previous government could take the initiative of holding negotiations with Taliban.
Interior Minister said that Army is not a hindrance in the way of negotiations but the process cannot further in the atmosphere of conflict.
He said that even supporters of negotiation process want to hold rallies to criticize the process out in the open, adding that one thing is decided in the meeting, another is said outside.
Ch Nisar claimed that it is because of the steps taken by government that the acts of terrorism have reduced; adding that there used to be tens of explosions but not a single one takes place now.
Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and NADRA which will facilitate establishment of ‘Asan Sahulat Centers’ (easy facility centers). Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak was also present on the occasion.
