ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – In another effort to bridge the power gap, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will inaugurate the 404mw Uch Power Project-II at Dera Murad Jamali today (Friday), Dunya News reported.

This project will help enhance capacity of the Uch Power Plant up to 990 megawatt.

The project, which has been constructed by a French company GDF-SUEZ, will produce cheaper and affordable electricity through natural gas.

It will not only contribute towards curtailing the present power shortages, but also save precious foreign exchange in oil imports.

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated additional power units at the Guddu Thermal Power Plant, which will add another 747 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid.

On the occasion, the premier told gathering that an additional 21,000 MW of electricity will be added to the national grid in the next eight years.

He said work on the 1,410 MW extension IV at Tarbela, Extension V at Tarbela for 1,320 MW and 4,500 MW at Diamer and Bhasa dams has also been initiated.
