Attack on Hamid Mir: PM directs immediate arrest of culprits

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited a private hospital here on Monday and inquire about the health of senior journalist Hamid Mir.

The PM received details about the attack on Hamid Mir. He assured family of the senior journalist to bring the culprits to justice.

It is pertinent to mention here that some unknown gunmen on motorbikes opened fire at a prominent Pakistani television anchor on a busy road in Karachi on Saturday.

Later, talking to newsmen outside the hospital, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack on Hamid Mir.
He said that detection and detention of the accused was a challenge for police who were trying best to investigate the case.

The PM said that Chief Justice of Pakistan has constituted a three-member judicial commission on the request of the government to probe the attack on Hamid Mir. He said that the report of the commission would be made public.

Responding to a question, the PM said that Karachi operation was underway successfully and it would continue till complete end to unrest.

Responding another query regarding Taliban talks, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that process of peace negotiations with Taliban was underway to restore peace in the country.

“The government is trying its best to restore peace in the country through dialogue”, the PM added.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad were accompanying the PM on this occasion.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high level meeting at Karachi airport to review law and order situation in the city.
