ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Death toll of Islamabad fruit market has reached 25 after one more victim succumbed to injuries on Thursday.
According to Dunya News, Muhammad Yaqub, 39-year-old resident of Charsada was rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) after the blast. He was shifted to surgical intensive care unit (ICU) in critical condition but he could not recover and passed away on Thurday.
At least ten persons were discharged from PIMS on Thursday whereas 33 are still under treatment.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved Rs 500,000 each as compensation for the families of those who died and Rs 75,000 each for those injured in the blast.
Managing Director Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal also visited PIMS and distributed Rs 30, 000 each among those injured in the explosion.
Meanwhile,vegetable and fruit shops remained closed in Islamabad farmers’ market to mourn Wednesday's blast and fruit and vegetable supply to different areas of the capital city was suspended. Protesting traders have demanded from the government to ensure their security.
On the other hand, district administration will take control of the market on Interior Ministry’s directives, whereas, security of the market will be reviewed as well.
Police have arrested more than 30 suspects during search operation in different areas of the city.
According to police, no important development was made during the investigation.
A probe team will be formed to investigate the incident.
Wednesday’s bombing -- the deadliest in Islamabad since a huge truck bomb at the Marriott Hotel in 2008 -- left a 1.5-metre (five-foot) diameter crater and littered the site with body parts and guava fruit drenched in blood.
The blast struck at around 8:00 am (0300 GMT) at the wholesale market near the capital s twin city Rawalpindi, as hundreds of grocers and sellers gathered to trade.
Javaid Qazi, the vice-chancellor of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital, said 22 people were killed and 96 wounded.
The United Baluch Army (UBA), one of several armed separatist groups in Balochistan, claimed responsibility. The same group also claimed responsibility for a bomb blast on a train on Tuesday which killed 13 people in the southwestern town of Sibi.
