Summary The court says that the ECP is bound to conduct elections in three provinces until November 15.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court on Tuesday issued the detailed verdict on delimitation of constituencies.
Chief Justice Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani wrote the judgment.
The 65-page detailed verdict observed that the judgment would not affect the local bodies elections in Balochistan held on December 7, 2013 on the basis of old delimitation of the constituencies.
The ruling further says that the federal government has been directed to make legislation for giving delimitation powers to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while the government of Sindh is also directed to make necessary corresponding amendments in the Sindh Local Government Act, 2013.
The court said that this exercise should be completed within a period of five months from today and the Election Commission of Pakistan shall thereafter take requisite measures to carry out the process of delimitation of constituencies for the local government expeditiously so as to complete the same within a period of 45 days of the enactment/amendments in laws in terms of this order.
The Election Commission of Pakistan shall further ensure that the announcement of election schedule and the process of holding it is complete by or before 15th of November, 2014.
