Summary The petitioner maintains legalities in ousting former chairman were not taken care of.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court issued notices to federal government on Thursday seeking response over appointment of Najam Sethi as PCB chairman, Dunya News reported.
Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi of Islamabad High Court heard the case. During the hearing, the petitioner’s attorney submitted that legal formalities were not fulfilled while ousting former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf.
The petitioner also said that federal government hasn’t submitted response despite notices, asking court to stop Sethi from working as PCB chairman.
Following the arguments, court reissued notices to PCB chairman Najam Sethi and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s Secretary for Inter-Provincial Coordination.
The hearing was adjourned until last week of April.
Appointment as PCB Chair
Sethi was appointed as PCB Chairman following the ousting of Zaka Ashraf on February 10 this year. Despite opposition, he maintained his appointment was completely constitutional.
He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif exercised his constitutional powers and formed the management committee.
Najam Sethi had said that the case against ‘Big Three’ in the ICC was not pursued in an effective way during the tenure of former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf.
Sethi had vowed to empower PCB and that it would show its progress.
