Summary The Defence Minister says that the government will abide by the court order.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the government is ready to provide air ambulance for the ailing mother of Pervez Musharraf to bring her back to Pakistan.
Addressing the session of National Assembly, He said the jails were full of the criminals whose relatives or dear ones were ailing but leniency to criminals would cost heavy price.
He said that there was neither any pressure nor the govt would accept any while the government and the army were on same page in this case.
Khawaja Asif said that the court has written a new history and dream of rule of law has come true. He said the court would decide about Pervez Musharraf and the government would implement the court order.
In his address, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai said that symbolic punishment should be given to the former president even if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif personally forgives him.
Earlier, Special court, which indicted former military ruler Pervez Musharraf for high treason over 2007 imposition of emergency rule, on Monday rejected his request to allow him to go abroad for treatment, Dunya News reported.
Musharraf filed two applications through his new defence lawyer, Farogh Nasim, seeking the court s permission to leave Pakistan for treatment in the United States. He had also wanted to proceed to the United Arab Emirate to inquire about the health of his mother, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital there.
The three-member special bench however rejected Musharraf s application and advised him to approach the federal government to seek removal of his name from the ECL.
The court said it has no jurisdiction to bar Musharraf from leaving the country as he is not under arrest in the high treason case.
The Interior Ministry has previously rejected Musharraf s request for permission to go abroad for treatment. Sources close to Musharraf say the former president is likely to submit a fresh application for removal of his name from the ECL.
Meanwhile, the court has exempted Musharraf from appearing before it.
