Summary Musharraf is likely to face indictment in the high treason case today.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former president and Army chief Gen (Retd) Pervez Musharraf has reached the premises of the Special Court to attend the treason case hearing.
On the other hand, a team of counsels defending Pervez Musharraf in treason case had decided to boycott the proceedings of the special court.
According to the sources, the decision was taken as Justice Faisal Arab would continue to hear the treason case.
The sources said Musharraf counsels were of the view that Justice Faisal Arab had decided to dissociate himself from the hearing.
The counsels claimed that Justice Faisal Arab’s remarks against Anwar Mansoor were unnecessary and against the facts, the sources added.
On Sunday, Pervez Musharraf was shifted to ICU after his blood pressure shot up, a day before he was expected to appear before the Special Court in the high treason case.
“There is a 50-50 chance” of the former president appearing in the court, a member of his legal team, Ahmad Raza Kasuri, said on Sunday.
The three-judge court had issued a warrant against Musharraf on March 14, ordering that he be arrested on March 31 and produced before the bench if he refuses to appear.
Three different routes were established by the capital police before Musharraf’s departure from AFIC.
For the former president’s security, about three thousand police and Rangers personnel were deployed on the routes.
The police squad is being headed by Superintendent Police Islamabad Mustansar Feroz and strict security measures were also in place outside AFIC.
It is pertinent to mention here that former president’s ailing mother was admitted to Sharjah Hospital on Saturday when her condition worsened suddenly.
According to a UAE paper, Pervez Musharraf’s 95-year-old mother Zarin Musharraf was taken to W. Wilson Hospital in Sharjah when her condition deteriorated all of a sudden. Reportedly, she is suffering from a breathing difficulty which can lead to heart problem.
