LAHORE (Dunya News) - Pakistan Day is being celebrated today (Sunday) to mark the passage of the Lahore Resolution that led to the creation of a separate homeland for the South Asian Muslims in 1947.
The historic resolution, known as the Pakistan Resolution, was approved on March 23, 1940.
The day dawned with special prayers for progress and prosperity of the country and with a 31 gun-salute in the federal capital as well as 21-gun salute in the provincial capitals.
The national flag will be hoisted on important public and private buildings across the country and all Pakistani missions abroad.
People will visit the mausoleum of Allama Muhammad Iqbal to pay homage to the poet philosopher who conceived the idea of the establishment of Pakistan. They will lay wreath on the grave and offer Fateha.
Various political, cultural, social and other organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day in a befitting manner.
