Summary A tribal jirga had allegedly ordered the killing of two women of Meher tribe.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani took a suo moto notice of two women killed for honour in in Shikarpur and summoned Inspector General (IG) Sindh to personally submit report on March 20, Dunya News reported.
Chief Justice said that the incident is a violation of article 9 of constitution; the hearing of suo moto case will take place at Karachi registry tomorrow (Thursday).
In Shikarpur a tribal jirga had allegedly ordered the killing of two women of Meher tribe. Jirga also fined Jakrani tribe Rs 2.4 million.
‘Honour killing’ or killing in the name of honour is outlawed in Pakistan but the number of reported cases involving honour killing is growing.
According to Aurat Foundation’s statistics, 432 women were reportedly killed in the name of honour in Pakistan in 2012, 705 in 2011, 557 in 2010, 604 in 2009 and 475 in 2008.
