LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Sunday that traitors and likes of ‘Mir Ja’afar’ made the country slave to America for dollars, adding that no lesson has been learnt from military operation in Balochistan. He welcomed the ceasefire announcement by Taliban and said the dialogue with Taliban should continue for as long as possible.
Addressing a party gathering here in Lahore, Imran Khan said that the country is filled with ‘Mir Ja’afars and Mir Saadiqs’ -- referring to the traitors – and that America wants to defeat Haqqani network upon its exit from Afghanistan.
Who cares if Pakistan sends troops in North Waziristan upon directions from United States (US)? He asked.
Lamenting at the political rivals as part of by-elections campaigning, Khan said that those who take shifts for power are still power-hungry claiming that rivals MQM, ANP, PMLN and PPP are afraid of his party.
PTI Chief said that he faced accusations of being pro-Taliban adding that a ‘true leader’ shapes public opinion instead of falling for popular narratives.
He emphasized that those who sabotage negotiations process need to be monitored closely.
Earlier, addressing his party’s Punjab chapter’s parliamentary committee, he emphasized his workers should focus on and talk about people’s issues. Striving for solutions to people’s problems is responsibility of members of assembly, he added.
Imran Khan commanded members to criticize policies in the house that go against the welfare of people. Taking notice of the absent members from the session, he inquired from the opposition leader about it.
Assembly members presented reports about their activities among the recommendations over various issues in provincial and national assembly.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jehangir Tareen were also present in the session.
PTI emerged as second largest political party in terms of number of votes; yet the party didn’t clean-sweep as opposed to party’s expectations. Imran Khan has termed a number of factors including alleged rigging for the outcome of general elections that took place on May 11 last year.
PTI chief often comes under fire for lamenting America’s war on terror and for terming the domestic insurgencies as the result of US’s involvement including its drone program.
It merits mentioning here that Imran Khan urged Taliban on Monday for an unconditional ceasefire and his party had vowed to support Pakistan armed forces in case of military operation in North Waziristan.
