ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at the PM House on Tuesday and discussed matters relating to national defence and security.
Following the one on-one meeting, Defennce Minster, Interior Minister and DG ISI and DG Military Operations joined the discussion.
According to sources, the political leadership took the military leadership into confidence on national security policy while the military leadership briefed the PM on airstrikes on the hideouts of militants in North Waziristan.
The sources added the meeting decided that stern action would be taken against those militant groups that denied surrendering their weapons.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that no one would be allowed to challenge the writ of the government however, the doors were open for those who agree to continue negotiations.
The meeting has been held in an important scenario after the federal government tabled new national security policy in the National Assembly.
Announcing the three-pronged national security policy, Interior MinisterChaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said that targeting terrorists in their hideouts is in consistent with PM s statement that violence and dialogue cannot go side by side. He said three-pronged policy has been adopted to counter terrorism in the country.
Nisar said the first part of the policy will be secret‚ second strategic and third operational. He said that this policy is not a final word and genuine inputs of parliamentarians will be welcomed and incorporated in the policy.
