ISLAMABAD (Dunya News / Web Desk) - The government dialogue committee has urged outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to immediately stop all its violent activities.

At its emergency meeting here on Tuesday‚ the committee observed that result-oriented and meaningful dialogue process could not move forward without this concrete step.

Reviewing the overalls situation‚ the committee reached the conclusion that success of serious peace effort is dependent upon immediate cessation of violence. The nation is desirous of peace and we cannot play with its nerves for an indefinite period.

Later‚ the committee held a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and briefed him about the dialogue process.

The committee expressed its inability to carry forward the dialogue process in the face of continuation of violent activities by the Taliban. The members‚ however‚ said that their services for any kind of consultation and assistance will remain at the disposal of the Prime Minister.

The peace talks are in crisis two weeks after they began following a claim from a TTP faction on Sunday that they had executed 23 soldiers who were kidnapped in June 2010.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called the deaths “heinous” on Monday and warned they would impact attempts at reconciliation, while government peace negotiators pulled out of scheduled talks.
