Summary The court had reserved its decision on December 11 prior to Tariq Malik's resignation.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Islamabad High Court on Monday declared the appointment of National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) chairman Tariq Malik as per law and announced that government s notification regarding his dismissal stands null and void.
IHC judge, Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi announced the decision on petitions pertaining to the appointment and dismissal of Tariq Malik as NADRA chairman.
“After coming back from vacations I learnt there have been a lot of changes,” Justice Qureshi stated, referring to Malik’s resignation.
In a surprising move, the government had sacked Malik from his post on December 3 without any notice and replaced him with Director General (NADRA-Sindh) Brigadier (retd) Zahid Hussain.
The deposal come hours after Malik was scheduled to brief the Election Tribunal on the recounting of votes of NA-118 constituency in Lahore, where a Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) candidate had challenged the election victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate.
Meanwhile, Malik challenged his termination and requested an early hearing in the IHC through Advocate Babar Sattar.
IHC, after a brief hearing on the next day, reinstated Tariq Malik on interim basis and suspended his termination orders.
On January 10, Tariq Malik resigned from the post citing personal reasons.
