LG polls not possible on scheduled dates in Sindh, Punjab: ECP

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court resumed hearing of a case pertaining to the local government (LG) elections in Punjab and Sindh.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) submitted its reply in Supreme Court on Monday.

In its reply, the ECP stated that it was not possible to hold LG polls on scheduled dates in Sindh and Punjab, adding that there was no other option than to cancel the schedule.

Meanwhile, additional attorney general sought a half hour break to read the reply of ECP.

The bench directed the additional attorney general to aprrise the court about the stance of government after reading the reply.

Earlier, the ECP had announced to hold LG polls on January 18 and 30 in Sindh and Punjab respectively.
