ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pervez Musharraf has filed two pleas in Islamabad High Court against the appointment of judges and prosecutors in the treason case against him.
Former president’s attorney Anwar Mansoor filed two separate pleas in the Islamabad High Court challenging the appointment of prosecutors and judges for his trial.
Musharraf had already challenged his trial which is being heard by Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi.
Pervez Musharraf’s attorney Dr Khalid Ranjha had argued that proceedings against Musharraf could not be taken up under the Article 6.
The ex-army chief could be tried under the Army Act and the special court could not prosecute him, he added.
In November the government announced it would put the former military ruler on trial for high treason and he has been ordered to appear before a special court on December 24.
It will be the first time in Pakistan's history that a former military ruler will face trial for treason.
The treason accusation relates to Musharraf's decision in 2007 to impose emergency rule shortly before the Supreme Court was due to decide on the legality of his re-election as president a month earlier, while he was still army chief.
