Summary The Sindh government had repeatedly requested the ECP to hold the elections in March.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh government will hold local government (LG) elections on January 18.

Sindh information minister said the provincial government was prepared to hold local bodies election on the scheduled date while the final decision over the LG polls was taken in a session at CM House today (Friday).

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) dismissed a second request by the Sindh government seeking an extension in the date for holding local bodies (LB) polls in the province.

The Sindh government repeatedly requested the ECP to hold the elections in March but the provincial government was merely disappointed after the decision.

The commission stated that the province should contact Supreme Court if they wanted a change in the schedule.

The schedule for LG polls in Sindh was also not issued since the government didn’t complete all legal procedures, according to the ECP.

A new schedule will be issued on December 13, the commission notified.
