In this regard, an 8-page plea was filed in the office of special court’s registrar in Islamabad today (Thursday).

The government requested that a case may be initiated against the former dictator under Article-6 of the Constitution for abrogating the constitution of the country by imposing emergency on 3rd November 2007.

According to sources, the court will resume case hearing after issuing notices to Musharraf and all respondents within few days.

Advocate Akram Sheikh, as a special prosecutor, will present evidence against Musharraf, the sources told.

It may be mentioned here that Pervez Musharraf, in a bloodless coup, sacked the elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1999 and also suspended the constitution when he declared emergency in 2007.

The 69-year-old former army chief, currently lives in his farmhouse in Islamabad after he got bails in three high profile cases, including the 2007 assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.

Musharraf, who had resigned in 2008 and had gone into exile, returned to the country in March this year to take part in parliamentary elections. However, a court disqualified him from standing in the May elections.

He cannot leave the country as his name has been included in the Exist Control List (ECL).
