Summary Sectarian violence is once again increasing in Pakistan after Muharram 10 clashes in Rawalpindi.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Punjab president Maulana Shamsur Rehman Muawiya was shot dead by unidentified persons here on Friday.
According to police, the incident took place at Bati Chowk area when unidentified gunmen opened fire on Maulana Shamsur Rehman’s vehicle.
Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat leader was returning home after leading Jumma prayer when his vehicle came under attack, officials said.
Maulana sustained serious injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital where he later succumbed to injuries.
According to doctors, Maulana received severe bullet injuries in the head and chest.
A new wave of sectarian violence has started in the country after the Rawapindi incident on Muharram 10 in which at least 11 people were killed while several others injured.
Three day earlier, deputy secretary of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Allama Didar Hussain was killed in a similar incident in Karachi.
