Summary Fiery IJT protests sparked following a raid by police on a hostel of Punjab University in Lahore.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Several activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) set a transport bus on fire in protest against police raid in a hostel of Punjab University in Lahore, Dunya News reported on Monday.

As many as twelve alleged activists snatched mobile phones and bus keys from driver and conductor on Wahdat Road.

The mob threatened the passengers to step down from the bus and later sprinkled petrol in the bus to set it ablaze.

The bus driver Muhammad Bashir said he was being tortured by the students belonging to IJT.

Earlier on Monday morning, Punjab police raided hostel no. 16 of the Punjab University and vacated for girls students.

Police also arrested 17 IJT activists for their alleged involvement in violence against the university’s teachers.

Following the arrests, other members of the organization took to the streets and held demonstrations.

The protesting students used buses to block traffic on the new campus bridge and other areas.

They blocked Canal Road, Band Road and Multan Road for traffic.

The drivers of the buses accused the students of snatching keys from them on gun point and fleeing way.

The recent dispute between the university management and Islami-Jamiat-e- Talaba intensified last week when canteen of a department was sealed due to non-payment.

Activists of Islami Jamiat-e-Talba protested and backed the contractor of the canteen.

They held some teachers hostage and tortured them. The teachers association demanded stern action against the organization.

In their comments, several visitors on social media including twitter, Facebook, have condemned Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba for creating mess in the city and demanded of the government to ban IJT as it has made University of the Punjab a hub for militants belonging to Al-AQaida.

They said that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing have been helping Anti-Pakistan elements in their subversive activities.

It is worth mentioning here that last month an alleged member of Al-Qaida was arrested with arms from the room of a member of Islami-Jamiat-e-Talaba.
